ECO Merit

EcoMerit is a Sustainable Energy Community registered with the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland. EcoMerit certified organisations are committed to improved environmental performance. As a member of the EcoMerit Community we continually aim to improve our environmental performance and reduce our carbon footprint. Our most significant direct environmental impacts arise from the electricity and mains gas we consume. We retain an EcoMerit Accreditation annually

We take steps to ensure that equipment and lighting is only operating when required, and that energy-efficient lighting is in general use.

We monitor this and mains water usage. We operate a segregation system to ensure our waste is recycled, wherever possible and landfill waste is minimised.

All Ireland Pollinator Plan
CorkChamber_610_415

We promote good environmental practices on our grounds through pollinator pledge, to our team and to our membership. In all our activities, we aim to be an environmentally responsible member of the community we serve. In 2021 Cork Chamber signed up as a business supporter of the All-Ireland Pollinator Plan. With pollinators in decline across the country Cork Chamber has pledged to take action to protect pollinators and support the shared plan of action to improve biodiversity across Ireland.

Since signing up to the plan we have made some changes that can be spotted around the chamber premises. The garden is now planted with Lavender, Heather and we are currently sourcing indigenous plants for around the borders. We have installed a bug hotel and are looking forward to continuing improvements year on year.

If you would like to join us and take the pledge to support the All-Ireland Pollinator Plan.

E-Charger

As part of our commitment to a more sustainable and resilient Cork, empowered by a thriving business community the sustainable development goals are activated across every strand of Chamber activity. Research has shown that electric cars are better for the environment.

They emit fewer greenhouse gases and air pollutants than petrol or diesel cars. In support of our commitment to lowering our carbon footprint and changing the way we view and develop sustainable transport within Cork Chamber, we have developed a partnership with Kearys Motor Group who have fitted a EV dual charge point at our Head Office.

TFI Bikes

While we focus on the changes that need to be made, we can also recognise the benefits that these changes can bring to our daily lives. The TFI Bike scheme is a wonderful way to reap the health benefits associated with cycling. At the Chamber we offer all staff annual subscription to the city bike scheme.

Here are just a few of the benefits associated with cycling to meetings or your workplace:

  • Reduced carbon footprint
  • Reduced costs associated with travelling by car
  • Improved health benefits
  • Decreased stress levels
  • Increased productivity
  • Social engagement

The TFI Bike schemes promotes a greener more sustainable method of transport. The TFI Bike to work scheme is one of the changes the chamber has made in recent years to secure a sustainable future for generations to come.
