10 New Start-Ups Introduced at Launch of 6th IGNITE Graduate Business Innovation Programme

Graduates starting business in areas such as medicine and health, food and ICT.

Fourteen aspiring graduate entrepreneurs working on ten start-up businesses were introduced on Tuesday 6th October at a packed reception at the Western Gateway Building, UCC, to mark the launch of the 6th IGNITE Graduate Business Innovation Programme.

IGNITE 2016 includes graduates of University College Cork, Cork Institute of Technology and Dublin City University with Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Molecular Cell Biology, Cloud Computing, Business Information Systems, Food Science, Commerce and Law. This year’s businesses are developing products and services in areas as diverse as medicine and health, food and ICT.

IGNITE Programme Director, Eamon Curtin, welcomed the attendees from industry, academia and the public sector. He thanked the representatives of Cork City Council, Cork County Council, the Cork County and City Enterprise Boards and Bank of Ireland for the financial support without which the programme would not achieved what it has achieved.

Speaking at the reception, Lord Mayor of Cork, Councillor Chris O’Leary, commended the programme. He noted the critical role that the Economic Development Funds of both Cork City Council and Cork County Council play in supporting new business start-ups through programmes like IGNITE.

Anita Maguire, UCC Vice President for Research & Innovation, noted that the programme is now an established part of the start-up eco system in the region.

“The IGNITE Programme is going from strength to strength,” said Eamon Curtin, Programme Director. “Past participants such as Sinead Bleiel of Anabio Technologies Ltd, Jayne Ronayne of KonnectAgain, Ross O’Dwyer and Richard Barrett of Pundit Arena and many others now provide excellent role models for future graduate entrepreneurs.”

IGNITE Graduate Business Innovation Programme is funded by Cork City Council, Cork County Council, Cork County and City Enterprise Boards and Bank of Ireland.
