INVITATION: Horizon 2020: European Funding for Research and Innovation-Opportunities for Start-up Companies

INVITATION:  Horizon 2020: European Funding for Research and Innovation-Opportunities for Start-up Companies

As part of the Start-up Gathering week, UCC in association with Cork Innovates is organising an information evening for start-up companies entitled “Horizon 2020: European Funding for Research and Innovation-Opportunities for Start-up Companies” and it takes place on Monday 5th October from 7pm to 8:30pm in Room G05 of the Western Gateway Building, Western Road, Cork.

Horizon 2020 is the name of the European Union’s Research and Innovation programme. Horizon 2020 started on 1st January 2014 and will end on 31st December 2020. Ireland is expected to win over €1 billion from the programme. This money will be won by Universities, Research Centres and Companies. There is an emphasis on supporting Small and Medium Sized companies (<250 people). Special initiatives have been included in the programme for Small companies.

This workshop will provide an overview of Horizon 2020 and will identify how companies can participate in the programme and will be presented: Dr. Seán McCarthy Hyperion Ltd (www.hyperion.ie)
This presentation will provide an overview of the different sub-programmes of Horizon 2020. It will identify the sub programmes that are best suited to small companies. It will also outline the issues that must be considered by companies before committing time to submitting an application. The results of the first year of Horizon 2020 will be presented.

A case study of Cork company MPSTOR will also be presented by CEO William Oppermann. This will be followed by an overview of UCC Supports for H2020 participation by Dr. David O’Connell, Director of Research Support Services at University College Cork.

Presentation will be followed by an open Question and Answers session. This is an event specifically tailored to Start-up companies and represents a highly valuable opportunity to access the expertise and perspectives of these two highly knowledgeable and experienced professionals.
