This half-day training course will give attendees a solid understanding of data protection law with practical application for the HR function in organisations:

• Analyse data protection principles
• Understand how data protection practice is evolving under GDPR
• Determine the specific data protection considerations for HR practitioners
• Understand how GDPR impacts on current HR practices
• Identify what changes are required in the HR function to be ready for GDPR
• Examine the consequences of non-compliance for employers
Topics include: recruitment process, in-employment screening, monitoring ICT Usage, time and attendance, video monitoring, employee use of company vehicles, disclosure of employee data to 3rd parties, international transfers of employee data, use of biometrics in the workplace, processing employee data using consent as the legal basis, impact/interaction with WRC.


To give attendees a solid understanding of data protection law with practical application for the HR function in organisations.

Who Should Attend?

This content is aimed at HR staff and senior managers.


This course introduces the concepts and principles of data protection and examines the significant changes in GDPR impacting business overall.

The second part of the course covers the common activities where data protection issues arise in the HR function and how these activities are impacted by GDPR. It provides guidance on best practice in common workplace situations with relevant examples used to illustrate key points.

The course includes two short exercises to illustrate the topic and reinforce learning.

The focus of our training at all times is on practical application of data protection within common business scenarios equipping participants with knowledge and tools that can be applied immediately.

About this form

The purpose of this booking form is to gather profile information about participants on programmes funded by Skillnets from the National Training Fund through the Department of Education & Skills (DES). Only aggregated participant data will be reported to the DES. Separately, Skillnets will inform the Department of Social Protection (DSP) about the attendance of individuals in receipt of income support from DSP on short courses (i.e. 20 days or less). This is part of an arrangement with the Department, which supports the participation of its clients on Skillnets programmes.
