Newest High Flying Announcement as Aer Lingus Confirm New Cork to Dusseldorf Route

Cork Chamber welcomes today’s announcement by Minister Donohoe of the new Aer Lingus Cork to Dusseldorf route which will operate twice weekly commencing May 2016.

Cork Chamber President, Barrie O’Connell, in commending the ongoing commitment of Aer Lingus to Cork Airport, and the work of Cork Airport management in conjunction with a wide range of local stakeholders to secure this additional route for Cork Airport, stated “facilitating access to the Cork and Southern region for the German market has been identified as a key source of tourist visitors which generate significant economic benefit to the region. The German visitor market has always been an important and valued asset to the entire Southern region, with German visitor’s year in, year out, exploring the rich and diverse scenic and cultural heritage in the South of Ireland. This is a great addition from both a tourism and business perspective, and will assist to strengthen the ties between the two locations”.

Mr. O’Connell, added, “It is with great enthusiasm that Cork Chamber welcomes this enhancement of accessibility to the region. We look forward to continuing to collaborate with Aer Lingus in the future to promote further European route connectivity to and from Cork”.

Through the conducting of successive Cork Chamber business air travel demand surveys, and through engagement with Cork Airport, Cork Chamber were able to highlight the need by Cork businesses for increased access to the German market.
