1st July 2015
Cork Education and Training Board (Cork ETB) has announced the appointment of Donnchadh Ó Croínín as Deputy Principal of the new Gaelcholáiste in Carrigaline. The announcement follows the recent appointment of Áine-Máire Ní Fhaoláin as Principal of the new school. Gaelcholáiste Charraig Uí Leighin will open its doors to students in August.
The Chief Executive of Cork ETB, Mr. Ted Owens, commented on the appointment: “We are delighted to announce the appointment of Donnchadh Ó Croínín as Deputy Principal of Gaelcholáiste Charrarig Uí Leighin. Donnchadh has spent the last 13 years teaching PE, Maths and Applied Maths in another Cork ETB school, Gaelcholaiste Choilm in Ballincollig.”
“Is fear Gaeltachta mé, le dúil mhór i ngach gné den chultúr Gaelach. Tá tuiscint ládir agama ar bhuntáistí an tumoideachais de bharr mo chuid scolaíochta féin agus na blianta atá tugtha agam ag múineadh i nGaelcholáiste. Táim ag súil go mór le cultúr láidir teangan, spóirt agus cultúir a chothú i nGaelcholáiste Charraig Uí Leighin,” arsa Donnchadh.
“We are delighted with the surge in enrolment, and with the huge interest in the Gaelcholáiste which is evident in Carrigaline and surrounding areas, but we are still accepting new applications for 2015/16 and thereafter,” Donnchadh added.
Cork ETB announced Waterpark House as the temporary premises for Gaelcholáiste Charraig Uí Leighin whilst the planning and building of the permanent €19 million campus is ongoing. The new permanent Gaelcholáiste will form part of a three-school campus which will include a Gaelscoil and a SONAS Junior primary school. The campus will accommodate over 1,000 pupils when completed.
Cork ETB will be patron of the second level Gaelcholáiste which will be 4,800 square metres in size and will accommodate up to 500 pupils. The building will include 24 general classrooms as well as specialist accommodation and a state of the art PE Hall.
