Would you like to challenge your world view, enjoy a delicious meal in one of Ireland’s top hotels and all the while donate to one of Ireland’s most trusted charities?
See things differently and book a place at Dine in the Dark. Dine in the dark is a unique dining experience in which diners wear a blindfold while eating their dinner in the plush surroundings of the Clarion Hotel, Cork in aid of Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind. Dine in the Dark takes place on World Sight Day on Thursday 9th October and replicates the stark reality of more than 12,000 people in Ireland who are registered blind.
“While people see Irish Guide Dogs as a cutesy charity with our beautiful pups and dogs, the reality is that we are working every day to support people who have suffered a severe trauma and have lost their eyesight or were born without vision or with a severe vision impairment,” said Paula McGovern, Communications Manager with Irish Guide Dogs. “Dine in the Dark is a fun concept and we encourage people to get involved and sign up themselves, their friends and their workplaces. It will be an enjoyable evening but there is a serious underlying awareness message – it replicates the reality of many people across Ireland who are vision impaired.”
Raymond Kelleher, Sales & Marketing Manager at the Clarion Hotel Cork said "The Choice Hotel Group are delighted to partner with the Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind for this worthy and unique event on National Sight day of 9th October. Both Clarion Hotels in Cork & Limerick and the Gibson Hotel in Dublin are thrilled to be host venues and hopefully together we'll raise awareness of the amazing work that helps people with vision impairments lead independent lives".
Speaking at the Cork event will be local Guide Dog Owner Anne Kelliher. Anne has been suffering a gradual loss of vision since the mid-70s and says that since being matched with Guide Dog Rory in 2012, her life has been transformed. “I really depend on him. I’ve always been very active and Rory has made me so much more confident. I’m studying in college right now and Rory is here with me!”
Dine in the Dark takes place at the Clarion Hotel Cork at 7pm on Thursday 9th October. Price per person is €65 including a 3 course tasting meal, glass of wine and entertainment. Book your place today: www.guidedogs.ie.
