The Four star hotel wins Hospitality Industry’s highest green accolade
The River Lee Hotel, the chic and luxurious four star hotel in the heart of Cork city has been crowned this year’s all-Ireland Gold Medal Award winner of Eco-Friendly Hotel of the Year.
The Hotel & Catering Review Gold Medal Awards winners were announced at a gala ceremony, held in Dublin’s Hilton Hotel on Monday night, 22nd of September.
The River Lee Hotel, which is part of the renowned Doyle Collection, triumphed ahead of hundreds of its peers across the island of Ireland to scoop the highly-regarded environmental prize.
The Gold Medal Awards are independent awards judged by experts that are regarded as the Irish hospitality industry’s most rigorous and competitive awards programme that recognises and rewards excellence in hotels, guesthouses, restaurants, spas, clubs and catering operations across the island of Ireland.
The Gold Medal Awards Jury praised The River Lee Hotel as a most deserving winner of the coveted award.
“It is a modern well run hotel, with very bright, lovely rooms, well trained staff, that is of very good 4 star quality, with an excellent Eco -Friendly focus,” said a spokesperson.
Ruairi O’Connor, General Manager of The River Lee Hotel proudly collected the award which he said would be so appreciated by all of the hard working team at the hotel.
“The Eco-Friendly award recognises our passion and dedication for bringing environmental participation and responsibility into everyday life at our business.
“Earlier This year, The River Lee Hotel was awarded the Georgina Campbell Best Business Hotel of the Year award and Trip Advisor Excellence Award. It proves that hotels can be leaders in promoting green policies while also providing the highest standards of quality and service to our guests.”

A total of 24 category awards were presented at this year’s Gold Medal Awards ceremony, which was attended by over 400 leading hoteliers, restaurateurs and caterers from across the country.
The River Lee Hotel was also a finalist in two other categories, Best Casual Dining and Best City Hotel which was won by The River Lee Hotel’s sister hotel in the Doyle Collection, The Croke Park Hotel, Dublin.
The River Lee Hotel is a member of the Doyle Collection and is situated on Western Road in Cork City. The Doyle Collection comprises eight luxury hotels in five key cities – Cork, Dublin (The Westbury Hotel and The Croke Park Hotel), London, Bristol and Washington DC.
