Cork Chamber Welcomes Dairygold Expansion Which Is Set To Create 115 New Jobs

Cork Chamber Chief Executive Conor Healy today warmly welcomed the announcement that Dairygold is to expand its operations in Cork with a €117m investment in two new plants in Mallow and Mitchelstown. The two new facilities will directly result in 115 new jobs for North Cork and will best position Dairygold to take advantage of the growth opportunities offered by the EU’s abolition of milk quotas.

Responding to this positive announcement, Conor Healy, Chief Executive of Cork Chamber, stated that ‘Cork Chamber is delighted with Dairygold’s decision to establish its new plants in Cork. This announcement strongly reinforces the Chambers recent publication on Cork’s agri-food and drinks opportunities which concluded that Cork will be integral to the Government’s success in achieving its projected increases in food and drinks output and exports by 2020 and more specifically that It will be key in attaining the 50% increases in milk production and 30,000 projected new jobs within the sector by 2020’.

Mr. Healy added, ‘Dairygold’s investment in the new plants will have a significant positive spin off effect on the local economy and furthermore, this announcement substantiates once again the key strengths and resources that the region has to offer and clearly positions Cork as a location of choice for the growing agri-food and drinks sector.’
