FASHION WEEK'S FIRST EVENT DETAILS HAVE BEEN RELEASED!

A celebration of all that is local and homegrown fashion, Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Cork has, over the past 6 years, become the hottest ticket in the annual fashion calendar.

This year's stylish events kick off on Friday, October 3rd at the Imperial Hotel with the Boutique Show, launching new Autumn/Winter collections from an array of city and county boutiques. The show will be hosted by TV Fashion Presenter and Lennon Courtney designer Brendan Courtney and guests will be able to browse a Fashion Hall on arrival as well as enjoying a Fashion Week after party with food and festivities in South's Bar afterwards. Proceeds from this event go to the Fashion Week chosen charity, which this year is Breakthrough Cancer Research.

Last year, many people were turned away without tickets at the door due to the event selling out, so to avoid disappointment tickets are now on sale online at www.tickets.ie.

The following night will see fashion graduates and students from all over the country battle it out for the Designer of the Year title at the same venue. Designers will get a chance to showcase their latest collections to a panel of expert judges in the hope of winning the now much sought after title. Previous winners are Belinda Sullivan (established her own design label and studio in Glenville after winning), Aidan Sheehan (designed accessories for at River Island in London after winning) and Alice Halliday (whose designs have been worn by Florence Welch from Florence and the Machine). The show will be hosted by fashion bloggers Emer O’Mahony of Irish Fashaholic blog and co-director of Fashion Week and Tara Marzuki of Tar Mar Tales, who is currently interning for Topshop in London to work at London Fashion Week.

Cork’s prime shopping district Opera Lane are also hosting an exciting fashion event with details to be announced soon. Smaller pocket events will be announced during September on the Cork Fashion Week website, Facebook and Twitter.

MSL Cork Mercedes-Benz are delighted to be on board to sponsor the Mercedes-Benz MSL Fashion Week Cork for a second year running. Mercedes-Benz has been a longstanding partner of the fashion industry, sponsoring over 30 fashion week’s worldwide; with the very first Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, taking place in Australia in 1996. This year, Mercedes-Benz continues the legacy of honouring designers who exemplify a dedication to design and craftsmanship via their Mercedes-Benz Presents platform.

Orla Dolan, Fundraising Director of Breakthrough Cancer Research, said, “We are absolutely delighted to be chosen as charity partners for Cork Fashion Week. All of the money raised during the week will go towards our ‘Fight for Girls’ campaign, which funds new research and treatment options for cancers affecting women, including lung, melanoma, breast, head and neck, colorectal, oesophageal, ovarian, and haematological. Research programmes funded by us must focus on translating lab discoveries into new treatment opportunities."

Mercedes-Benz MSL Fashion Week Cork 2014 is about keeping people in fashion in jobs and promoting the great talent we have throughout the Irish fashion industry.
