Cork Community Project - Christmas CD.

The Cork Community Project set out as a small but optimistic venture in February 2013. COPE foundation, three Mayfield based Foroige projects and the Voices of Cork community choir came together to create a new collaboration in music and song.

The purpose was to link children and teenagers with and without disabilities to existing arts and community groups across the city. Cllr. Catherine Clancy is Patron of the project.

Our first venture was to create a Christmas CD of well known Christmas songs. This involved bringing together various groups of young people across the city. These include a Rock group, a rap group, a newly formed voices of cork youth choir and a 300 strong children’s choir from eleven different schools. All recording and performing groups include members from the COPE foundation. Renowned Soprano Mary Hegarty as well as performing, mentored the children throughout the recording. Adult massed choir included members from The Carragline singers and Barony choir. The Barrack Street Band, St Nicholas brass band and Cork Flute Ensemble also provided the accompaniment to each group during recording and performances.

Eamon Nash, Co-founder and Director says “This idea stemmed from working with various community groups over many years and in particular a social music group I facilitated last year for young people with Autism at COPE foundation. Participation in a community choir or group is a great way to interact socially and is great fun for everyone while bringing about a real sense of belonging and social inclusion”.

The Cork Community Project Christmas CD called “A Red and White Christmas” was launched at the Lord Mayor's office, City Hall on Thursday, December 12th.

All proceeds will go to COPE foundation and three Mayfield based Foroige Projects.

CD’s are available to purchase at various shops and venues throughout the city.
