With over 110 years of welcoming golfers from all over the world to Killarney Royal, the hotel has been officially recognised as a forerunner (pun intended!) in Irish golf tourism and was last night, awarded the Ireland Golf Tour Operator Association, 2012 Boutique Golf Hotel of the Year.
The proprietors, Joe & Margaret Scally and family and all the members of the team at Killarney Royal were overjoyed to receive this prestigious honour at the glamorous awards ceremony held at Lough Erne resort, Fermanagh last night. The award was presented to Claire Scally by IGTOA Vice Chairman and Director of Lynchpin Tours, Mr David Hudson, and celebrity presenter, GAA star, Peter Canavan.
Claire Scally accepted the award on behalf of the Scally family and their team at the hotel and stated:
"At Killarney Royal our business is personal. My grandmother began welcoming golfers to Killarney Royal in 1961 and my family and our team have specialised in the golf market ever since. Throughout the years we have had the pleasure of welcoming golfers from across the globe. We understand that we have a responsibility to the industry and, in particular, to the agents that choose to accommodate their clients with us. Often Killarney Royal is the first place that golfers experience when they arrive in Killarney, and we ensure that their welcome is warm and genuine. As a boutique hotel, we have the added advantage that we can offer our guests a bespoke service throughout their stay.
We are very honoured to be recognised by the IGTOA members who are the lifeblood of Irish Golf Tourism and we look forward to even more success in the golf market now that we have been officially recognised as the golfer's choice Boutique Golf Hotel of the Year."
Minister for Transport, Tourism & Sport Mr. Leo Varadkar congratulated all the award winners who received national accolades stating:
“I’d (also) like to congratulate the winners (in the other categories), each of whom is making a significant contribution to the tourism industry. As Minister for Transport, Tourism & Sport, I can definitively say that golf is a real Irish success story in terms of bringing visitors to Ireland, and providing them with first-class facilities.”
The team at Killarney Royal will be celebrating the award with their clientele throughout the month of November, with the addition of a complimentary glass of bubbly being served with the hotel's famous Afternoon Tea. The cost of afternoon tea is €15.00 per person.
Killarney Royal is also known as the ‘little sister’ property to Hayfield Manor in Cork.
