FOOD SAFETY EXPERTS TO HOST NATIONAL CONFERENCE IN DUBLIN

The Food Safety Professionals Association (FSPA) will host a National Education Conference on Food Allergens and Contaminants in the overall context of Food Safety at The Chapel in the Royal Hospital Kilmainham, Dublin on Friday 2 November 2012.
The half day conference, which is free to attend, will discuss food allergies and intolerances and the many and serious resulting health problems. Controlling cross contamination in industry is a key issue and one which the FSPA has been keen to highlight to the food manufacturing, hospitality and catering sectors in Ireland.

“For many individuals, food can be a source of chronic illness. The number of people with food allergies and intolerances is increasing rapidly in Ireland, which means that there can be an immediate health risk if education and cross contamination measures aren’t taken across all food sectors”, explained Lorraine Oman, Chair of the FSPA. “This event will provide some expert insights on these important health and food safety issues, and anyone who is involved in the food industry in Ireland is welcome to attend”, she added.

An impressive line-up of national and international food safety experts will address the attendees of the conference, including James McIntosh of Safefood, Simon Flanagan of University of Reading , Ray Ellard of The Food Safety Authority and Adrian Cummins of the Restaurant Association of Ireland, A panel discussion will ensure lively interaction for all the participants on these important food issues.
The FSPA Food Safety Quality Assurance Awards will be presented by food critic, Tom Doorley, at the event. These awards are an important element of the event, and recognise those who have excelled in their commitment to food safety.

The FSPA actively run ongoing development sessions across a number of topical issues.
The National Education Conference & Awards Ceremony will take place from 10 am to 1 pm. For further information and to secure your booking please log onto www.fspa.ie.
