19th October 2012
Are Irish women fully exploiting their entrepreneurial potential? Is there enough support available for female entrepreneurs in Ireland? These are some of the topics that will be discussed at the Cork Chamber’s upcoming event on Mentoring for Female Entrepreneurs, which will take place on Wednesday 24 October in The River Lee Hotel. The event will consist of a seminar and panel discussion from 10.30 – 12.30, followed by a complimentary light lunch. One-to-one meetings with mentors can be pre-booked from 13.30-15.00, by women in business less than 4 years who would like the opportunity to ask a mentor for advice on a specific issue.
Cork Chamber are delighted to welcome Paula Fitzsimons as keynote speaker at the event. A recognised expert in entrepreneurship, Paula has been the national coordinator for the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) report since 2000. The annual GEM report gives a unique insight into early stage entrepreneurial activity in Ireland. Through her research, Paula recognised that fewer women start new businesses and of those that start fewer have growth ambitions than men. As a result she designed and developed ‘Going for Growth’ which is focused on peer support as a means of assisting women entrepreneurs who wish to grow their businesses.
Panellists who will be offering their advice and insight into issues affecting female entrepreneurs include: Gillian Keating (J W O’Donovan Solicitors), Jean O’Sullivan (Enterprise Ireland), Christine Winning (Corporate Care Relocation) and Lisa Murphy (ThinkTank).
The event is being held as part of a European Commission project which is being run through Cork Chamber and four other Chambers of Commerce in Ireland. Experienced businesswomen throughout Ireland are voluntarily giving their time to this project in order to offer expert mentoring to female entrepreneurs, to offering advice and assistance to those in their first, very challenging years in business.
The event is free however attendees are asked to register in advance at www.corkchamber.ie or email Katherine@corkchamber.ie for more information.
