Cork Chamber welcomes opening of strategic energy asset in Whitegate
Cork Chamber today (6th December 2010) welcomed the opening of a new power plant in Whitegate, Co. Cork by Bord Gáis.
Discussing the opening Cork Chamber Chief Executive Conor Healy said, “The new plant is a welcome component of building a reliable, cost efficient regional and national energy infrastructure. As well as the employment created in its construction and operation, the €400 million investment in Whitegate is further recognition of Cork’s importance to Ireland’s energy future. One quarter of all Ireland’s national energy needs are produced in one square mile in Whitegate and 90% of the oil reserves held in Ireland are stored in the Cork region”.
Mr Healy concluded, “The opening of the Bord Gáis plant is an important step in realising Cork’s potential to become a progressive energy hub”.
