Despite Severe Weather Conditions the Port of Cork Remains Open for Business

With severe weather conditions hitting Ireland in recent days the Port of Cork is operating as usual with passenger ferries unaffected and regular cargo and container shipping arriving and departing.

Ensuring that trade is able to enter and exit the Port of Cork is vitally important to the economic benefit of the region. Over the coming day’s ships carrying containers, crude oil, animal feedstuffs, fuels, cars and passengers are due to arrive at the Port of Cork.

Port of Cork Chief Executive, Mr. Brendan Keating said today: ‘It is very important that we keep things moving at the Port of Cork so that businesses in and around Munster have enough stock to continue to do business, particularly on the run up to the busy shopping season. 94% of cargo arriving at Tivoli Container Terminal is distributed within the Munster area.’

He continued: ‘Ensuring trade is exported to world markets is also hugely important for businesses. Ports provide vital trade links, and on an island like Ireland it is important to keep these links open. Very often when severe weather hits, it is the airports and roads which are most effective. Reliably ports always remain open for business.’

The Port of Cork is the key seaport in the South of Ireland with links to UK, Europe & Northern Europe and West Africa.
