Cork Chamber has welcomed the recent confirmation from the Department of Transport as listed in the National Recovery Plan 2011 – 2014, that the funding is in place for the Bandon Road and Sarsfield Road flyovers to proceed in 2011 and urges the NRA to complete the tender process as quickly as possible.
Cork Chamber Chief Executive Mr Conor Healy said, “Cork Chamber has consistently highlighted the increased congestion in the city region, as a result of a lack of investment in the Sarsfield Road and Bandon Road flyovers. We are delighted that we are now even closer to the elimination of two major traffic bottlenecks on the South Ring Road following this positive announcement and look forward to the regional economic benefits which will accrue from investing in these key pieces of infrastructure”.
“This is positive news for Cork but in order to capitalise on the benefits, the NRA need to conclude the tender process without delay so that construction can begin, generating much needed employment”, concluded Mr Healy
