EMC Ireland wins Company of the Year Award - 08.02.2010
Cork SME Company of the Year is Lincor Solutions
Emerging Cork Company of the Year is WiseTek Solutions Ltd
Cork Chamber in association with BT, today announced that EMC Ireland is the overall winner of the Cork Chamber/BT Company of the Year Award.
The Cork SME Company (less than 50 employees) Award was won by Lincor Solutions and the Emerging Cork Company (less than 5 years in business) was awarded to WiseTek Solutions Ltd.
Presenting the awards at this evening's Cork Chamber Annual Dinner in City Hall, Leo O'Leary, Head of Sales, BT Business , the communications and IT service company, said, "Despite one of the toughest trading years in recent times, the entrepreneurial spirit and the ethic of hard work remains very evident in Cork. The businesses who are being recognised by these awards give the other companies hope and reassurance in an uncertain time. The success of these businesses has far-reaching benefits - to local employment, to the community and to the Irish economy. Congratulations to the three winners of the Cork Company of the Year awards, they have demonstrated fortitude and resilience and I wish them the best of luck in their future business endeavours".
Speaking about this year's winners, Ger O'Mahoney, President of Cork Chamber said, "Over the past thirteen years the Cork Company of the Year Awards, in partnership with BT, have gone from strength to strength, becoming an established awards programme synonymous with the highest level of performance and achievement in Cork businesses. This evening we acknowledge the successes of three dynamic companies whose management teams have shown tremendous commitment to providing high quality employment, delivering excellent products and services to their customer base in Ireland and overseas and investing in R&D facilities whilst making a significant contribution to the local economy and to Ireland's reputation internationally".
Announcing details of the Company of the Year award Mr O Mahoney said, "EMC Ireland has been operating in Cork since 1988 and has recently become a key Centre of Excellence with over 1600 highly educated professional, technical and operational personnel on a site of 560,000 sq. ft. in the development and provision of information infrastructure solutions. The Cork site hosts 24 different business units including: Sales, Marketing, Engineering, Manufacturing, Finance and a state of the art Briefing Centre for customers from 85 countries. Staff members are drawn from 36 countries speaking 26 different languages in the course of their daily work. Major clients include the world's largest banks and financial services firms, many of whom are listed among Fortune 500 companies. Investment in R&D and continuing to hire both permanent and fixed term employees in 2009 marked a year of considerable growth in Ireland. We are pleased to see how committed the company is to working with the local community where staff give of their time to help organise and run great events and partner with many charities, schools and colleges".
Accepting this award on behalf of EMC Ireland, Mr Bob Savage, Vice President and Managing Director, said, "I am truly delighted to receive this award on behalf of the team at EMC in Cork. Announcing details of the Best SME Company Award Mr O'Mahoney said, "Lincor Solutions provides a touchscreen computer solution for Bedside Patient Entertainment and Clinical Access services to hospitals worldwide. Its patented technology, entirely developed in Ireland, greatly improves patient safety and care at the point of care. Lincor was set up in 2003 and currently over 95% of its turnover is from overseas markets. It has installations in over 60 hospitals in 15 countries including Ireland, UK, France, Holland, Belgium, Spain, Italy, Malta, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Hong Kong, Canada, USA, Saudi Arabia and Australia. Its creative "can-do" approach, unique technology and highly skilled and motivated team in Cork and Dublin has delivered rapid growth for Lincor winning the Deloitte Fast 50 in 2008 and as runners up in 2009. The company is accelerating its sales and marketing with new offices opened in 2009 in Toronto and also it won a significant new contract in Asia at the prestigious St. Paul's Hospital in Hong Kong. Plans are also in place to establish a US office as the American market is viewed as top priority being the largest market and the most commercially oriented hospital market in the world".

The third award category is Cork's Emerging Company of the Year which was presented to WiseTek Solutions Ltd. Announcing the details Mr O'Mahoney said, "WiseTek Solutions Ltd, founded just over two years ago, offers a worldwide reverse logistics service to Original Equipment Manufacturers in the electronics industry. Based at their 46,000 ft² facilities in Glanmire, a strong management team has grown the business to currently employ 51 people. Acutely aware of the Green Agenda and the need for regulatory compliance (WEEE), the company can ensure its customers satisfy the demand to Reduce, Re-use and Re-cycle. Introducing a pioneering approach to end of life equipment processing, has allowed the company to offer its clients maximum value reclamation from their redundant equipment, through re-marketing or refining, in a transparent, compliant and efficient manner. This additional Asset Value Recovery Process positions WiseTek to offer a complete reverse logistics solution to their customers, working towards becoming a global leader in Third Party Logistics".
