CHAMBER POLICY & RESEARCH

The Chamber affords the business community the opportunity to be more involved in policy making, with the objective of developing, shaping and formulating policy which will ultimately benefit the regional business community.

Given the contribution of Cork Chamber to regional competitiveness, the representation of strategic business, cultural and societal needs, in addition to the recognition of the importance of Cork's key role as a "Gateway" City, as outlined in the National Spatial Strategy and the constantly evolving regional economic environment which accompanies that status, the Chamber takes a strategic interest in regional economic development and policy formulation.

To further the Chamber's expertise within the policy arena and to lobby and represent the interests of the regional business community, the Chamber engages fully and professionally across a wide range of policy activities and debates. Through the co-ordinated efforts of the Chamber policy committees, which operate to a framework aligned with the key regional business issues (i.e. Economic development; transport and infrastructure; aviation; enterprise development; science research and innovation; environment and telecommunications, media and technology), primary research and analytical documents are formulated to assist the Chamber on better informing the key decision makers with unequivocal evidence based data to guide the policy making process. The participation of key industry experts in the policy committees ensures sound professional judgment and objectivity in the formulation of these Chamber policy positions.

A partnership approach to policy development, is advocated at all times by Cork Chamber through the co-ordinated actions of local businesses and local authority representative's who sit on the Chamber policy committees and this in turn ensures leadership amongst the Cork business community in the policy debate.
