Cork & Shanghai
Cork has been twinned with Shanghai since 2005. The Sister-City Agreement is set in the context of the developing relationship between Ireland and China in the following areas:
- Business
- Local Government
- Education
- Tourism and Culture
As the largest business organisation in the Cork region, the Chamber has collaborated significantly with the City Council in helping to develop the business relationships between Cork and Shanghai. Cork Chamber first led a delegation to Shanghai in 2006 and more recently led a second delegation in September 2010.
The Chamber has signed Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) agreeing to promote trade and cooperation, with two Chambers of Commerce in Shanghai and recently signed an MOU with a Chamber of Commerce in Hangzhou, capital of the Zhejiang Province, located about 2 hours outside Shanghai.
